New to Karting - Where to Start?
Hi, I am new to karting and am not really sure where to start. I went to dunkwell for a weekend last year and thought it looked like great fun. But it is a long way from bristol. Firstly do you have space for a novice? What type of karts do you race? What would suite me ( i am 29)?What courses / licences would i need to race? Can I start mid season to gain some experience etc. Costs of second hand kart and running costs of a years racing. Any help would be much appreciated as this is something I have always wanted to do but never quite got round to actually doing..... Cheers Ed

Ed, Now you're really splitting heirs there! MultiMap shows: Bristol-Dunkeswell = 73mls Bristol-Llandow = 64mls! However, the most negative point about Dunks is not the extra 10mls but the limited track time available. Certainly if one is a novice! Over at Llandow: (almost) 364days/year! Given that you've last been to a track last year, regardless of which one you pick on, best thing to do is to get down there again, preferably at a race meeting. There's one coming up in two weekends time at Llandow, and another the following weekend at Dunkeswell if you don't mind the extra 10miles! Get friendly with as many of those in the paddock (not a difficult thing to do at all) and start pestering with questions! Best way of learning exactly what's involved in the best form of motorsport there is! Drop me a line if you're planning the latter and I'll be more than happy to offer paddock experience at Dunkeswell. Provided that you don't mind swinging a spanner or two! And I'll guarantee tyre changing practice as well! You can always drop me a line whenever you like! Details in the Profile. Dan
