Old one but a good one Hi All, New to this forum. So greetings all. also new to karting. Would like to start racing but don't know where to turn. Also have a 5 yr old that has just had a go at karting in Spain and is totally addicted. (Wants one) so all you fathers know about bonding with your kids. Is there a class for this 35yr old 20stone lump. that can get into racing before all my money goes on my son. Pretty mechanical minded. Raced motocross for years but now the bones are getting old. (or is that to much of a risk to get sick days off work with inguries, pay mortgage)
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mike

If you were looking to race at Llandow i'd look at Senior Rotax (2 stroke, very quick) or Senior Prokart Heavyweight (slower but cheaper and a kart/driver weight limit of 190kg). You may find that you are more competitive in the Prokart heavyweight class as there are another 8 or 9 30 something 'lumps' having a great laugh in that class.
Come down the track on saturday july 21st (if u can make it) - that is the practice day for the next club meeting and there will be plenty of drivers who u can chat to about both classes

Heavies! Solidedge,
As much as I'd like to point you in the 2T direction (for sheer fun there's no comparison), there's two big reasons you ought to take Henry's advice:
1: Being 20st puts you in the Rotax 177Heavy class which is all but NOT represented at Llandow. You'll be left with 10st 18yr olds with daddy's big wallets to fight with! And there's not a lot of fun in bringing up the rear all the time trust me!
2: Because of the stickier tyres at Llandow the Max's are quite violent on the old (mine and yours) ribs! Not to mention that the aforementioned tyres cost £100 a go!
And there's a 3rd reason as well: the Senior Honda class is burgeoning at Llandow, the boys are really friendly and there's a lot of heavies to play with. On top of that, Gwyn has started organising once monthly mid-week evening endurance races and they are open to Non-licence holders Honda (and others) drivers!
Actually, the week after next there's another race on and so far I don't have a partner so if you want to take part in your first race, get in touch with Gwyn, get all the details you need and I'd be quite happy to partner you in a team. What do you think of that?

Hi K1-Dan,
Won't mind taking you up on the offer. Can you let me know what i need to enter. I have my own helmet as I ride an XJR1300 (not had the weather to take her out much this year). I have a problem with siatica at the moment but that will not stop me as I done a good 30 minutes race in Spain last week. Came away with arm pump. Really loved it. Am ok sitting down but can't stand for long periods. But I drive to Bristol every day so no problem there. Just let me know how much and what else i need and i will be there.

Ring Gwyn and get all the details from him.
He also has a kart shop and might have a deal or two on second hand karts for you to get you going in the racing world!
If you want clothing I can provide that, check my website. www.k1racegear.co.uk
If this message sounds like we're vultures after your money, you're not far off  the truth! LOL You'll feel like that for the first few weeks, but trust me you'll get the best deals from us.
