ProKart Endurance.
Congratulations to Messers Jones and Turvey. (7-11-07) Well done to all the other drivers who won their classes and those who drove for 2 1/2 hours and didn't quite make it. Six hours in January! Now that will sort out the men from the boys. How about it you 'fighter pilots' think you can join the 'bomber boys' for some Real Karting. Gwyn, get ready for the rush.

Dibbymac- 11-08-2007

Is that only 4 the prokarts?? And has it passed??

Old K D- 11-08-2007

Yes it was only for Prokarts, Pro class, Junior Pro and Clubman. 168 laps, 5.2 seconds separated 1st and 2nd in the Pro class. Lap times were around 52 to 53 seconds roughly. The untroubled ones made one stop to fuel and change drivers. Hard work! If you think you could run your kart for 2 1/2 hours with only one stop feel free. Might prove to be very expensive. Prokarts were built for endurance so they are the best for the job. Another in December. 6 hours in January, gluttons for punishment. Maybe see you there.

Dibbymac- 11-09-2007

wow! 168 laps!! Shame tho, i cant enter i dont think, my rotax will probably take up all of my petrol can and more! And i dont have a license! Bugger! Looks like i wont see u there, sory!! Dibbymac

Old K D- 11-09-2007

You probably could enter. The Endurances are not run under MSA regulations. So you do not need an MSA licence. I don't know how old you are. If you have driven the Llandow A&D karts you are half way there. You could enter in the Clubman class and use one of the hire karts. I'm not sure how it all works, entry fees and any other costs. You need to find someone to share the driving. You should talk to Gwyn Latcham, the organizer. Any one else who has taken part can advise you. By the way, as Pink Floyd sang, 'Is there anybody out there?' Where is every else? Come on folks at least check in so we know you are alive.

Dibbymac- 11-10-2007

ok thanx Old K D, but u dunno wether i can drive my mini max do u?? And i am 13. Dont u have 2 pass race achademy first?? Cos i av'nt. And will every1 else have the same karts as i do???????

Dibbymac- 11-10-2007

LOL <(^^)> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old K D- 11-10-2007
ProKart Endurance.
Ha! No Minimax for an endurance. At 13 you would be in the Junior Pro class. You would need a Prokart. However as there are usually teams of two drivers you might be able to team up with someone who has a Prokart but no partner. Or you could find out if one of the SWKC karts is available. Someone out there, if the world hasn't come to an end, will be able to tell you all you need to know. Come on Gwyn, help us out, it was all your idea in the first place.

PS, What the H--- has happened to this message board. I'm going cross eyed with the Bottom scroll bar trying to find the end of the line.

Dibbymac- 11-10-2007

what do u mean? What, that its big?? Any way why dont they do endurance races 4 mini max? Is it cos they have a big thirst compared to prokarts or what??????????? Dibbymac

Old K D- 11-11-2007

Thanks Chriss. Short lines are easy to read. Dibbs, take your finger off the ! or ? key when you get excited. Now then. The experts will tell you that if you try to run a Minimax in an endurance several things will happen 1. You will wreck your engine. 2. You will wreck your tyres. 3. You will wreck your body. 4. You will probably use up all your pocket money and your parents will need a second mortgage to pay to put it all right. It would be cheaper to dump your kart and buy a new one. A big thirst is right, a thirst for everything. Prokarts for me!

K1-Dan- 11-12-2007

OldKD, not all of that is entirely true! "1. You will wreck your engine." Why would you assume that an engine that is guaranteed by the manufacturer to run 50hrs could not cope with a 2.5, 6, or even indeed 24 hrs? You just up the oil/fuel ratio to help engine run longer, use different plug, jetting, etc. "2. You will wreck your tyres." Don't you? You are indeed right in assuming the SL8's or SL6's would not last more than about 100laps, but then Rotax's are used in endurance and they do use harder compound tyres to last the race. It's like cracking a nut, you wouldn't use a sledgehammer to do the job of a nut cracker would you? "3. You will wreck your body." Is the track any different if you drive a 2T from a 4T kart? What's one thing got to do with the other? Since when you have to go "slower" to last an endurance race? You think that the 24hr Le-Mans cars are going slower than they would if they were doing a sprint race? Flat out they go! "4. You will probably use up all your pocket money and your parents will need a second mortgage to pay to put it all right." Now here's where you're getting closer to the truth, although the only extra spending is in the engine rebuilds! "It would be cheaper to dump your kart and buy a new one." Once again, you wouldn't use a supple sprint chassis for an endurance race! Refer you back to the nut and the sledgehammer! All in all thanks for the compliments though, finally a Prokart driver that has been man enough to admit that the real racing is to be had in a 2T machine! Thanks OldKD! All that aside you are right, there are less Rotax endurance races than Prokart and they never race together in the same class. The Prokarts are indeed just made for the endurance! To the extent that other than Llandow and IOM there aren't many other clubs that have a regular sprint class on the race calendar! I haven't come across any in my travels yet! To end it all have a look at this website: http://www.openendurancechampionship.co.uk/oekc02.htm Dan PS. Not sure if you are aware that a British team has this summer set a new record at distance travelled in a kart during 24hrs. It was done in a 2T gearbox kart, they used 3-4 engines and 4 drivers. Prokarts were used only to retrieve the machine back to pits when it ceased or broke down!

Old K D- 11-12-2007

Thank you K1-Dan, I stand corrected. I was hoping someone who knew what he was talking about would help me out. I was struggling to keep my head above water with all the enthusiasm Dibbymac is showing. And Hey Dibbs, don't lose your keeness about Karting, but cool down a bit. At only 13 you have many years of karting ahead of you. When you pass your ARKS test and get your MSA licence you will find yourself in a competative world. There will be highs and lows. Always have faith in yourself. Take the advice offered, learn the craft of karting and never give up the Challenge. Most of all enjoy what you do.

Gwyn Latcham- 11-13-2007
