What a Day! (18-11-2007) I know it does rain at Llandow, sometimes, but we often get a break to change from slicks to wets or vice versa. No chance this Sunday. If ever there was a missnamed day!
However, never mind the constant rain and drizzel, the nagging blustery wind and the brass monkey cold, almost everybody had a great time.
At the end of the Championship rounds, congrats to all the class champs. old and new. Comiserations to all the runners up, close and distant. Well done to all the tryers, if it wasn't for you the winners wouldn't look so good. Never mind, maybe next year; there is always a next year.
Special mention should be made of the driver who managed to lose both front wheels, at the same time, and was still able to safely park his stricken kart. Magnificent driver control? Thank the Lord for rear wheel drive. There must be a little known secret of steering with no steering. A case of mind over matter. Expensive for the driver but it did brighten up a miserable day and give us a chuckle. Sorry about that.
Although the driving conditions were less than ideal!! there were no serious incidents on the track. Unfortunatly there were a few non-finishers but no red flags. All the drivers were on their best behaviour, it would seem.
The men in orange did a stirling job. Let us not take for granted the dedication shown by the Marshals.
Who in their right mind would stand out in the middle of nowhere and watch a bunch of nut cases charge around on glorified skateboards in the pouring rain? But they do and make the racing possible for the rest of us.
Something the Club and SWKC should put right is POST 5. It must be like being sent to a Siberian Gulag. At the mercy of all winds and weather, the only protection is from a low flying kart. It must be like standing in a open ended bath tub. If it wasn't for this opening the occupant is likely to drown.
Well done Mike.
Finally a word in support of all the karting Dads and Mums who do what they do. In their different ways they all help to keep the show on the road.
I have to mention one Cadet Dad who suffered serious back damage (not lifting a kart). We hope the pain soon goes away and all slips back into place. Thanks to the guys who packed up the awning and workshop when there was a danger of the whole lot being blown into the Bristol Channel.
Anyway our young driver was somewhat distraught at having to go to hospital and miss the rest of the meeting. He said, ".. but I've put hours into this." Haven't we all. Not to worry there is always next year.

Yes, Old KD - many, many thanks to those who saved the awning and for the offers to run our lad as his Dad was taken to hospital.
Dad is now in pain and 'making the most of it...' - hope we'll make the Celtic!

If Mr Lewis is still out of action at the Celtic you're more than welcome to park up next to OSB and we'll run him for the weekend

Thanks Henry, I'm rushing through a crash course on set up and running a driver - my instructor lying in a warm comfy bed, whilst I brave the cold and rain - depending on how quickly I learn or how quickly Mark heals, I may have to take up your kind offer. On the other hand, Marcus is very enthusiastic at the prospect of having a "good mechanic" run him for the day!
