Phone around for a price on the medical, any chance of getting one through work? As far as the helmet is concerned, an Arai will be Snell rated. Dont buy a K98 or an SA2000 rated helmet as they "expire" in 2008 and 2010, not good value unless you get one really cheap. I personally wouldnt buy a K type anyway as I believe they are made heavier.

Good thinking, I've just got on the work BUPA scheme. If my current helmet will do for now, I'll keep it till I see how hooked I get. Also, when my Mum finds out she'll probably insist on buying me as much protective gear as she can buy me. That's a kind of sad admission from a 25 year old man, but at least she cares. :)

Well... are you an a budget or not? Given that a good helmet can cost you as much as 1/2 your budget for the kart I'd stick with the existing one! Nigel does the ARKS test at Llandow and he also races prokart so you're in good hands there. As for the medical, it doesn't need to cost a fortune, if you have a GP friend or anyone who is a practitioner and has his own stamp he/she can do the test for you, pretty simple! The only test that he/she might not be able to get around is the urine/diabetis test. I got mine for free from a doctor mate of mine! Or if you have a good relationship with your own GP you might be able to get a discount. I also know a bloke who sells quality clothing for karting, might save your mum a bob or two!

alcat, you mention it to your dad and I'll have a word with the bloke I know! How's that? I suspect he might be feeling the pinch more than you do but in a completely different way! LOL

At least you didn't go out on diesel like others have tried in the past! LOL

Thanks for the advice so far guys, it is really good. I'm quite sure that the Prokarts will be more than fast enough for me. They'll do about 60+ won't they? I wouldnt bank on it not round llandow the rotax's are just about hitting sixty. But for good budget and 'ahem' clean racing prokarts are a definate. they usually have the biggest grids and offer alot of good racing. Plus its a very helpfull environment there are usually alot of people around to help.
